Man was fleeing police in a Fort Worth suburb when he shot officer, grand jurors say
A Louisiana man accused of shooting a Watauga police officer in the arm during a foot pursuit was indicted Wednesday on an attempted murder charge.
Britt Jacoby Moody, 36, of Minden, was also indicted on two counts of aggravated assault against the same officer and on one count of evading arrest, according to a news release from the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.
Latoria Iverson, 31, was indicted on a charge of tampering with intent to impair the investigation, concerning a crime related to this case, the release said. Iverson is accused of providing thee police officers with false or misleading information as they were trying to apprehend Moody, according to court records.
Moody is suspected of shooting the officer in an arm on the night of June 22 during a foot pursuit, according to police. The officer was treated at a hospital and released, Watauga Police Chief Robert Parker said.
The encounter began about 9:30 p.m. when police tried to stop the vehicle Moody was driving, Parker said. He led authorities on a vehicle pursuit before he stopped at Virgil R. Anthony Sr. Park at 5900 Barry Drive and abandoned the vehicle.
As police chased on foot, Moody allegedly turned and fired at officers, Parker said.
Moody also is accused of driving over another officer’s foot, police said. Police officers did not return fire during the incident, according to authorities.
