Denton police search for driver in hit-and-run crash that killed pedestrian on highway

Denton police are searching for a driver suspected of crashing into and killing a pedestrian early Monday morning.

At about 3:36 a.m., police were sent to a major crash on southbound Interstate 35 East at the McCormick Street overpass.

A dark gray Honda Accord had hit a man on the highway, and the person driving the Accord drove away without stopping. The man was hit by at least one other vehicle following the initial crash, but the second driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation, Denton police said.

The medical examiner will identify the man who died once his family has been notified.

Traffic investigators are searching for a four-door 2008-2012 Honda Accord, trim level EX, EXL or Touring model, possibly equipped with a sunroof as well. It is possible that the driver may not have known that the car struck a person, Denton police said.

The car is believed to have right front corner and passenger side damage.

Anyone with information surrounding this crash can contact Traffic Officer Tom Birckbichler at (940) 349-7851, or Traffic Officer Arie’ll Bell at (940) 349-7941.
