Police officer shot, wounded by suspect during foot chase in Fort Worth suburb

A Watauga police officer who was pursuing a suspect on foot was shot and wounded late Monday during the chase, the police chief said.

Police officers did not return fire.

The officer was wounded in the right arm, taken to a local hospital and later released, Watauga Police Chief Robert W. Parker told the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

No other injuries were reported.

A search continued Tuesday for the unidentified suspect.

The incident began about 9:30 p.m. Monday in Watauga when officers conducted a traffic stop, the police chief.

KXAS-TV reported the suspect was in a stolen vehicle, but the police chief said he had not verified that information.

“The suspect drove away and there was a pursuit,” Parker said.

The suspect led authorities on a car chase before he stopped at Virgil R. Anthony Sr. Park in Watauga, 5900 Barry Drive, and abandoned his vehicle.

As police chased him, the suspect turned around and shot at officers, the police chief said.

Along with Watauga, officers from Fort Worth, North Richland Hills and Haltom City assisted in the pursuit.

The police chief did not identify the injured Watauga officer, who he described as a veteran of the police force.
