2 Dallas officers, 2 women injured when suspected drunk driver crashes into squad car
Two Dallas police officers on the scene of an accident on I-35E early Thursday morning suffered minor injuries when a suspected drunk driver crashed into a squad car and the car spun into them, the department said.
Two passengers inside the car, both 21-year-old women, were also injured in the crash. The woman sitting in the front passenger seat broke her arm, police said, and the woman sitting in the back broke her nose.
The two officers, who weren’t identified, suffered apparently minor injuries, police said.
Dominica Lopez, also 21, was arrested on the charge of intoxication assault. She was uninjured.
Around 3:55 a.m. on Thursday, the two officers, who weren’t identified, were in the southbound lanes of I-35E at the Marvin D. Love Freeway split helping to shut down the freeway after a major accident, police said.
As they stood in the road, police said, Lopez failed to move over for the marked squad car, which had its lights flashing. She reportedly struck the front left of the car, causing it to rotate and slam into the officers.
The officers and the two passengers in Lopez’s vehicle were all transported to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, police said.
