Man accused of shooting 12-year-old sister in the back in their home near Fort Worth

An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for a 20-year-old Haltom City man accused of seriously wounding his 12-year-old sister in the back after he fired a handgun into a bedroom closet.

The girl was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth on Monday in serious condition.

Her older brother ran from the Haltom City home after the shooting, police said.

Haltom City police identified the suspect as James David Reeves, 20.

Detectives tried to get Reeves to voluntarily go to the Haltom City police station, but he had not as of Tuesday.

The warrants for Reeves accuse him of reckless injury to a child, tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair an investigation and possession of a controlled substance/THC.

The injury and drug possession charges carry bonds of $30,000 each, and the tampering charge carries a bond of $15,000.

Haltom City police believe Reeves fired a handgun into a closet of a bedroom in the home. That bullet went into the bathroom, hitting his sister in the back.

The shooting was reported about 3:30 a.m. Monday in the 5300 block of Ira Street in Haltom City, northeast of Fort Worth.

Haltom City police have not released any information on why the man was shooting into a closet.

Anyone with information should call Haltom City police at 817-222-7000 or dispatch at 817-281-1000.
