12-year-old girl shot through bathroom wall in home near Fort Worth, police say

A 12-year-old girl was shot in the back early Monday while she was in a bathroom at a Haltom City home, Haltom City police said.

The girl was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in serious condition.

Haltom City police believe a 20-year-old man was in an adjacent bedroom when he fired a handgun into a closet of a bedroom in the home. That bullet then went into the bathroom.

The man left the home.

Detectives have been in contact with the 20-year-old and officers are attempting to get him to voluntarily come to the police department.

The shooting was reported about 3:30 a.m. in the 5300 block of Ira St. in Haltom City.

Haltom City police have not released any information on why the man was shooting into a closet.
