Former O.D. Wyatt High student dies from gunshot wounds in Fort Worth shooting

A former student at O.D. Wyatt High School has died from gunshot wounds he suffered Sunday in Fort Worth, authorities said.

Lawrence Garcia Jr., 18, of Fort Worth, died at a local hospital Monday afternoon, almost a day after the shooting, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Garcia was pronounced dead at 2:10 p.m. Monday at the hospital.

Garcia had been enrolled as a ninth-grader at Wyatt High School but apparently dropped out last year, according to Fort Worth Independent School District records. He was not attending school in the Fort Worth district this year.

The shooting was reported about 7 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of South Sylvania Avenue.

A resident reported that a man had been shot, according to a police call log.

Several people of interest were detained Sunday, police said, but no charges had been announced as of Tuesday.

Police have not released any further details on suspects or a motive for the shooting.
