17-year-old victim killed in Thanksgiving wrong-way crash; driver arrested

A wrong-way driver who North Richland Hills police say hit three vehicles Thanksgiving morning has been arrested and the 17-year-old victim who was critically injured has died, police said.

Benjamin Castaneda was identified by police as the victim on Friday. A dog that was in his car was also killed in the crash.

Noemi Martinez, 29, was booked into North Richland Hills Jail on Friday and charged with intoxication manslaughter, police said.

Martinez suffered minor injuries in the Thanksgiving morning crash, which happened in the eastbound lanes of Northeast Loop 820 near Holiday Lane in North Richland Hills.

The wreck occurred about 5:15 a.m. Thursday.

Initially, North Richland Hills police believed Martinez entered the highway at Boulevard 26, but investigators now are unclear where the vehicle got onto the highway.

Martinez is accused of hitting three vehicles, critically injuring the 17-year-old who later died.

One other motorist was injured, while the third driver did not receive any major injuries, North Richland Hills police said.
