A wrong-way driver crashed into three cars on Interstate 820 in North Richland Hills on Thursday, critically injuring one person, authorities said.
The driver of a black Chevrolet Tahoe drove the wrong way on Boulevard 26 exit ramp and into oncoming traffic at about 5:15 a.m, hitting two dark-colored SUVs and a light-colored Sedan, according to a media release from the North Richland Hills Public Safety Office.
The driver of the Tahoe was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver of the light-colored sedan was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and a dog that was inside the car died as a result of the crash.
A third driver was in stable condition, and the fourth driver did not have any major injuries.
The crash caused eastbound I-820 to close for several hours.
Accident investigators and crime scene investigators were assisting with mapping the crash scene Thursday. North Tarrant Express and Haltom City helped with the freeway closure, which began at Denton Highway.
