Fort Worth woman identified as victim in fatal Haltom City traffic wreck

A Fort Worth woman has been identified as the victim in a Friday fatal traffic crash in Haltom City, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website on Monday.

Diaja Faye Waites, 20, was pronounced dead Friday morning at the scene of the crash. A ruling on her death is pending an autopsy.

One man was critically injured and another was seriously injured in the wreck after a pickup truck crashed into two cars that were parked along a Haltom City highway on Friday morning as multiple people dealt with a flat tire, Haltom City police said.

Waites was in one of the parked cars at the time of the crash, Haltom City police said.

Two men who were helping to change the tire were taken to hospitals with life-threatening injuries, Haltom City police said.

The man who was driving the pickup was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

Area police and firefighters responded to the crash in the 5100 block of Northeast Loop 820 around 7:40 a.m. Friday, Haltom City police said. Officers saw three vehicles that had been involved in a collision, police said, and were able to determine the series of events that led to the crash.

A brown Nissan Altima was parked in the inside shoulder of the highway with a flat tire, police said. In front of the car, a silver Ford Focus was also pulled over, Haltom City police said.

A white Ford F-150 was reportedly driving toward the group in the inside lane of the highway, and the pickup suddenly veered to the left toward them, police said. The driver told police he was reaching for a water bottle when he lost control of the truck.
