Impaired driver arrested after hitting motorcycle in fatal wreck, Arlington police say
An Alvarado man was arrested late Tuesday and accused of causing the traffic death of a motorcyclist in Arlington, Arlington police said.
The suspect ran away from the accident scene, but Arlington police found him in a nearby neighborhood, according to a news release from Lt. Christopher Cook.
The suspect has been identified as Felipe Venegas Ramos, 28. He faces charges of intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid.
Ramos was in the Arlington Jail on Wednesday. Bond information was not available.
The motorcyclist killed in the crash was Hatem Barakat, 50, of Arlington, according to officials with the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Arlington police responded to the major traffic accident shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 7800 block of South Cooper Street in Arlington.
Investigators believe the motorcycle was traveling northbound on Cooper when the suspect tried to turn left from 1200 Sturgeon Court and failed to yield the right way, colliding with the motorcycle.
The suspect driver fled the scene on foot, Arlington police said, and they found the motorcyclist critically injured. The motorcyclist was taken to a local Arlington hospital, where he died.
