87-year-old man accused of shooting to death his wife in their home near Fort Worth

An 87-year-old Haltom City man called police and reported he had shot and killed his wife in their home Friday morning, Haltom City police said Sunday.

When they arrived, Haltom City police found 86-year-old Betty Nickell, 86, dead from a gunshot wound to her head.

No other injuries were reported.

Her husband, William Nickell, who had called Haltom City police, was taken into custody and faces a charge of murder in the case.

As of Sunday, Haltom City detectives are still investigating a motive for the killing.

The shooting was reported shortly after 2 a.m. Friday in the 5100 block of Ira St. in Haltom City.

The homeowner later identified as William Nickell called and told dispatchers he had shot his wife. Officers found his wife with a single gunshot wound.

William Nickell surrendered to Haltom City police Friday morning without incident.

The Haltom City homeowner was taken to the North Richland Hills Jail where he posted $10,000 bond and released Friday afternoon.
