Brother arrested in shooting of his 12-year-old sister in their home near Fort Worth
A 20-year-old Haltom City man accused of shooting his 12-year-old sister in the back was in custody Wednesday morning after he surrendered to authorities.
James David Reeves was in the North Richland Hills Jail after Haltom City police had issued a warrant for him in the Monday shooting that left his sister in serious condition.
The shooting was reported about 3:30 a.m. Monday in the 5300 block of Ira Street in Haltom City, northeast of Fort Worth.
The girl was in a bathroom when police say Reeves shot a gun into his bedroom closet. The bullet went through a wall and hit his sister.
The girl was taken to Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth.
Reeves ran from the home, police said.
An arrest warrant was issued Tuesday for Reeves.
Warrants accuse Reeves of reckless injury to a child, tampering with physical evidence with intent to impair an investigation and possession of a controlled substance/THC.
The injury and drug possession charges carry bonds of $30,000 each, and the tampering charge carries a bond of $15,000.
Haltom City police have not released any information on why Reeves fired a weapon into a closet.
