Three people suffer severe burns in Grand Prairie home explosion, officials say
Three people were injured and taken to the hospital after a home explosion in Grand Prairie Saturday, according to the Grand Prairie Fire Department.
Firefighters responded to an explosion about 11:30 a.m., at a home on N. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. According to KDFW-TV, preliminary evidence leads fire investigators to believe it was caused by a gas leak.
The fire department told KDFW-TV that three people were taken to the Parkland Hospital in Dallas with burn injuries.
“After hearing a boom, he went outside to see what was happening and saw the aftermath of the explosion,” a next door neighbor, Adolfo Angel Rodriguez, told KDFW-TV.
Rodriguez said the situation was scary, but he and his family went outside to help. He saw his next door neighbors, a father and his two children, on fire, KDFW-TV reported.
“He immediately called 911 and picked up a hose. He tried to console them, and sprayed other homes to try to stop the fire from spreading as they waited for first responders to arrive,”KDFW-TV reported.
Both the father and his son living in the home were burned on their faces and bodies, Rodriguez told KDFW-TV.
Investigators have not discovered the root cause of the explosion, Battalion Chief Wendell Grider told KDFW-TV.
“Other than just a gas explosion, we don’t know the cause of the leak, but Atmos is making sure that it’s not theirs,” Grider said.
