Tarrant reports 59 COVID deaths in past 3 days, including 26 on Wednesday

The county reported 18 COVID-related deaths on Tuesday and 15 on Monday.

Wednesday’s COVID-related deaths include a Kennedale man in his 30s, two Arlington women in their 50s, a Forest Hill woman in her 60s, a Fort Worth woman in her 60s, a Hurst woman in her 70s, a Fort Worth woman in her 70s, a man in his 70s from rural Tarrant County, two women and a man from North Richland Hills in their 70s, an Everman man in his 70s, a Crowley man in his 70s, a Haltom City man in his 70s, a Fort Worth man and woman in their 70s, a River Oaks woman in her 70s, a Fort Worth man in his 80s, an Arlington man in his 80s, a Keller woman in her 80s, a Hurst woman in her 80s, a Fort Worth woman in her 80s, two Fort Worth women older than 90, a Hurst man older than 90, and a Euless woman older than 90.

Tuesday’s 18 COVID-related deaths included a Bedford woman in her 50s, a Fort Worth woman in her 50s, a Lake Worth man in his 60s, two Fort Worth women in their 60s, an Arlington woman in her 60s, a Benbrook man in his 70s, a North Richland Hills man in his 70s, a Fort Worth woman in her 70s, an Arlington woman in her 70s, a Mansfield woman in her 70s, a Hurst man in his 80s, an Arlington man in his 80s, three Fort Worth men in their 80s, a Grand Prairie man older than 90, and a Haltom City man older than 90.

Monday’s 15 COVID-related deaths included a man from Fort Worth exceeding 90, a man from Everman in his 80s, two women and two men from Arlington in their 80s, two men from Fort Worth in their 80s, a man from Dalworthington Gardens in his 70s, two men from Fort Worth in their 70s, a woman from Kennedale in her 70s, a man from Arlington in his 70s, a man from Fort Worth in his 60s, and a woman from Bedford in her 50s.

All 59 had underlying health conditions, according to officials.

Tarrant County has reported 552,914 COVID-19 cases, including 5,480 deaths and an estimated 497,231 recoveries.

Note to readers: Tarrant County does not release data on the vaccination status of recently diagnosed patients or deaths. Officials have released this type of data once in June and it showed that nearly 100% of the new cases reported at the time (from May to mid-June) were in people who were not vaccinated. Further, county officials said fewer than 200 of those new cases at the time were in previously vaccinated Tarrant residents.

COVID-19 hospitalizations

Hospitalized COVID patients decreased by 21 to 530 in the latest seven-day moving average. It’s the fewest since Dec. 28. The pandemic high was 1,528 on Jan. 6, 2021.

COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased to 12% from 13% of the total number of beds in Tarrant County and make up 13% of the 3,942 occupied beds. The rate was at a pandemic-high 38% on Jan. 10.

Confirmed COVID patients decreased to 11.70% from 12.36% of all available hospital beds in the North Central Texas Trauma Region, which includes 45 counties (divided into three regions). It’s the lowest rate since Dec. 31.

Hospital beds

Tarrant County’s hospital bed occupancy increased to 89% from 88%, according to county data. Available hospital beds decreased by 33 to 502. The pandemic low of 357 was reported Jan. 10.

ICU beds

Adult ICU bed occupancy decreased to 93% from 94%. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 99% on Oct. 7. Ventilator use decreased by 22 to 283. Patients are using 34% of the 842 ventilators in the county.

Positivity rate

The COVID-19 positive test rate for Tarrant County decreased to 11.86% from 13.53% in the latest available seven-day-average data. The rate has been declining since Jan. 16. It’s the lowest seven-day average since Dec. 20.

Vaccination data

Children ages 5 and older are now eligible for vaccination, so the following vaccination percentages have been altered by the Texas Department of State Health Services to reflect that larger population.

According to Texas DSHS, 68.25% of Tarrant County residents 5 or older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 59.92% of residents 5 or older have been fully vaccinated.

DSHS also reports that 92.48% of Tarrant residents 65 or older have received at least one dose, and 84.77% of residents 65 or older have been fully vaccinated.

More than 74.99% of Texas residents 5 or older have received at least one dose, according to DSHS. The rate of fully vaccinated Texas residents 5 or older is at 63.50%.

Tarrant County is offering free COVID-19 vaccines and testing at locations throughout the area.
