Pantego detective with nearly 20 years of North Texas service dies of COVID-19
Cpl. Sheli Godbold, a detective with nearly 20 years of police service in North Texas, died Thursday because of COVID-19 complications, according to the Pantego Police Department.
“Sheli was loved by all and brought happiness, laughter, smiles and the strength to fight,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Godbold began her police career at the Euless Police Department in 2004. In 2012, she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and temporarily ended her police career.
She worked to get her health back to normal and was hired by Pantego Police in 2016, according to the department.
“Godbold loved town events at the park with the citizens, visiting the local businesses, and the kids and staff at Camp Thurman,” the department said in their post.
Outside of work, Godbold spent time exercising and fundraising for multiple sclerosis marathons. She also was a part of the North Texas Jeep Club and used her Jeep to give rides to frontline medical workers during the February 2021 ice storm, according to the department.
She’s survived by her daughter Kayla.
The department will announce service details soon.
