Tarrant reports 22 COVID deaths in past 3 days, including 3 women in their 30s

Tarrant County reported six COVID-19 deaths and 274 new cases on Monday.

The county reported 16 COVID-related deaths over the weekend, including seven on Sunday.

Monday’s six pandemic-related deaths include a Pelican Bay woman in her 30s, a Crowley man in his 50s, a Fort Worth man in his 60s, a Fort Worth woman in her 70s, a Colleyville man in his 70s, and a Fort Worth man in his 80s. All six had underlying health conditions, according to officials.

Seven COVID-related deaths were reported on Sunday, including a Haltom City woman in her 30s, a Mansfield woman in her 30s, a Sansom Park man in his 50s, a Fort Worth woman in her 60s, a Hurst man in his 60s, a Fort Worth woman in her 80s, and an Arlington woman in her 80s. All seven had underlying health conditions, according to officials.

Nine COVID-related deaths were reported on Saturday, including a man from rural Tarrant County in his 50s, an Arlington man in his 60s, a Fort Worth man in his 60s, a Saginaw man in his 60s, two Fort Worth men in their 70s, an Arlington man and woman in their 70s, and a woman in her 70s from rural Tarrant County.

One of the nine did not have underlying health conditions, according to officials.

The county has reported 365,435 COVID-19 cases, including 4,776 deaths and an estimated 352,878 recoveries.

Note to readers: Tarrant County does not release data on the vaccination status of recently diagnosed patients or deaths. Officials have released this type of data once in June and it showed that nearly 100% of the new cases reported at the time (from May to mid-June) were in people who were not vaccinated. Further, county officials said fewer than 200 of those new cases at the time were in previously vaccinated Tarrant residents.

COVID-19 hospitalizations

Hospitalized COVID patients decreased by 11 to 229 in the latest seven-day moving average. The pandemic high was 1,528 on Jan. 6.

COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased to 5% from 6% of the total number of beds in Tarrant County and make up 6% of the 3,524 occupied beds. The rate was at a pandemic-high 38% on Jan. 10.

Confirmed COVID patients decreased to 4.96% from 5.26% of all available hospital beds in the North Central Texas Trauma Region, which includes 45 counties (divided into three regions). The rate has been below 15% since Oct. 1. The 4.96% is the lowest rate since it was 4.91% on July 18.

Hospital beds

Tarrant County’s hospital bed occupancy decreased to 82% from 83%, according to county data. Available hospital beds increased by 43 to 793. The pandemic low was 360 on Sept. 20.

ICU beds

Adult ICU bed occupancy remained at 90%. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 99% on Oct. 7. Ventilator use decreased by 16 to 226. Patients are using 26% of the 875 ventilators in the county.

Positivity rate

The COVID-19 positive test rate for Tarrant County decreased to 11.02% from 12.11% in the latest available seven-day average data. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 30% on Jan. 7.

Vaccination data

As of Thursday, children ages 5 and older are now eligible for vaccination, so the following vaccination percentages have been altered by the Texas Department of State Health Services to reflect that larger population.

According to Texas DSHS, 61.793% of Tarrant County residents 5 or older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 55.05% of residents 5 or older have been fully vaccinated.

DSHS also reports that 89.40% of Tarrant residents 65 or older have received at least one dose, and 82.64% of residents 65 or older have been fully vaccinated.

More than 66.46% of Texas residents 5 or older have received at least one dose, according to DSHS. Fully vaccinated Texas residents 5 or older is at 57.79%.

Tarrant County is offering free COVID-19 vaccines and testing at locations throughout the area.
