Tarrant COVID deaths, cases persist despite recent trend, including 26 deaths Wednesday
Tarrant County reported 26 COVID-19 deaths and 1,020 new cases on Wednesday.
The county has reported 123 COVID-related deaths in the past seven days.
The latest pandemic-related deaths include a White Settlement woman in her 20s, a Fort Worth man in his 30s, three Fort Worth men and a woman in their 40s, a Colleyville man in his 50s, a Mansfield man in his 50s, a Euless man in his 50s, two Fort Worth men in their 50s, a Haltom City woman in her 60s, a White Settlement woman in her 60s, two Fort Worth women and a man in their 60s, a Mansfield woman in her 60s, two North Richland Hills men in their 60s, two Fort Worth men in their 70s, a Fort Worth man in his 80s, a Mansfield woman in her 80s, a Haltom City man in his 80s, a North Richland Hills woman in her 80s, and a woman from rural Tarrant County in her 80s.
One of the 26 did not have underlying health conditions, according to officials.
The county has reported 344,848 COVID-19 cases, including 4,273 deaths and an estimated 311,545 recoveries.
COVID-19 hospitalizations
Hospitalized COVID patients decreased by 58 to 870. The pandemic high was 1,528 on Jan. 6.
COVID-19 hospitalizations decreased to 19% from 20% of the total number of beds in Tarrant County and make up 21% of the 4,067 occupied beds. The rate was at a pandemic-high 38% on Jan. 10.
Confirmed COVID patients decreased to 16.91% from 17.85% of all available hospital beds in the North Central Texas Trauma Region, which includes 45 counties (divided into three regions). It’s the lowest rate since Aug. 13.
Hospital beds
Tarrant County’s hospital bed occupancy increased to 90% from 87%, according to county data. Available hospital beds decreased by 111 to 476. The pandemic low was 360 on Sept. 20.
ICU beds
Adult ICU bed occupancy increased to 98% from 96%. The rate was last at a pandemic high 99% on Sept. 19. Ventilator use decreased by three to 375. Patients are using 48% of the 786 ventilators in the county.
Positivity rate
The COVID-19 testing positivity rate for Tarrant County increased slightly to 18.68% from 18.42% in the latest available seven-day average data. The rate was last at a pandemic-high 30% on Jan. 7.
Vaccination data
According to Texas Department of State Health Services, 66.55% of Tarrant County residents 12 or older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, and 58.37% of residents 12 or older have been fully vaccinated.
DSHS also reports that 87.17% of Tarrant residents 65 or older have received at least one dose, and 80.64% of residents 65 or older have been fully vaccinated.
More than 71.64% of Texas residents 12 or older have received at least one dose, according to DSHS. Fully vaccinated Texas residents 12 or older are at 61.52%.
Tarrant County is offering free COVID-19 vaccines and testing at locations throughout the area.
