1,200 new jobs coming to Fort Worth as this global company announces expansion

MTU Aero Engines AG, a Germany-based global manufacturer of aircraft engine components, is investing $120 million to expand its far north Fort Worth maintenance facility, creating more than 1,000 new jobs.

The company said it has signed a 30-year lease contract with the city of Fort Worth for the facility at 2100 Eagle Parkway. The site is at Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport, in the AllianceTexas development built by Hillwood.

MTU plans to modernize its existing 462,000-square-foot building and add 1,200 “highly skilled” jobs in Fort Worth, in addition to indirectly creating up to 2,000 more jobs in aircraft services, logistics and infrastructure. MTU currently employs 120 people at the Fort Worth maintenance center.

Currently named MTU Maintenance Dallas, the facility will be renamed MTU Maintenance Fort Worth on Sept. 1.

The investment in Fort Worth is part of MTU’s plan to expand its airplane engine maintenance capabilities and repair services across North America. The Fort Worth facility will transition from an on-site service center to a full disassembly, assembly and test facility.

Fort Worth will become one of only six sites for maintenance, repairs and overhauls of the LEAP family of engines used by Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX commercial aircraft.

“MTU Maintenance’s facility in Fort Worth is working on meeting all requirements for LEAP engine inductions in the coming years and will be supported by MTU’s vast network and capabilities during ramp up,” the company says.

“We have a clear business strategy for regional collaboration, are committed to job creation and both excited and prepared for significant growth,” said the facility’s managing director Gernot Sell.

MTU, whose business also includes military aircraft, says its technology provides thrust capabilities in one in three commercial aircraft worldwide. It has 19 locations on five continents with more than 13,000 employees.

‘MTU Maintenance Fort Worth will be a powerful force for economic growth’

Perot Field, which is designed for cargo and corporate aviation, is home to a range of flight support services, including private and military aviation. The city of Fort Worth owns the airport, though it is managed by Alliance Air Services, a Hillwood company.

“As one of the soon-to-be largest engine maintenance and testing facilities in North America, MTU Maintenance Fort Worth will be a powerful force for economic growth — bringing thousands of high-quality jobs, attracting top-tier aviation talent, and reinforcing our region’s position as a global leader in aerospace innovation,” said Christopher Ash, Hillwood’s senior vice president of aviation business development, in a statement.

Munich-based MTU maintains about 1,500 engines and industrial gas turbines each year. The company’s revenue was about $8.7 billionin 2024.
