Ross Perot Jr. elected chair of U.S. Chamber of Commerce board of directors

Texas billionaire Ross Perot Jr., whose development firm Hillwood built AllianceTexas in Fort Worth, has been elected chair of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce board of directors, the organization announced Thursday.

Perot will serve a two-year term. He was previously vice chair of the chamber board, and has been part of the board since June 2020.

“The free enterprise system is what allowed my family to create and live the American dream, and there’s no other organization standing up for economic freedom around the world like the Chamber,” Perot said in a statement.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is one of the country’s largest business advocacy groups. Its current priorities include pushing for permanent tax reform, advocating for new trade agreements and growing U.S. energy production.

“As chair, he will bring his global leadership, passion for free enterprise, and pioneering spirit to help the Chamber advance policies that unlock greater economic growth at home and abroad,” said the president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber, Suzanne P. Clark.

Perot succeeds Mark Ordan, CEO of Pediatrix, as chair.

“He is a staunch and full-throated supporter of the Chamber’s mission and work, and I know Ross will do great work on behalf of American businesses as chair of the board,” Ordan said.
