Sewage runs onto patio at Fort Worth restaurant closed by health inspector

A Fort Worth Mexican restaurant was temporarily closed after sewage discharge ran from a wall through its patio dining area, and roaches were observed at other eateries, according to health inspection data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The reports compiled by the Star-Telegram contain health violations from Sept. 14 through Sept. 27 and the results of 286 inspections.

Fort Worth’s restaurant inspections function on a demerit system. Zero demerits is considered a perfect score. Restaurants with over 30 demerits are required to fix the worst problems immediately and remedy the rest within 48 hours.

Uncle Julio’s, at 5301 Camp Bowie Blvd., was temporarily closed after health inspectors observed sewer discharge running from an exterior wall through the patio area, across a walkway, into the grass, onto the sidewalk and into the street before reaching a storm drain. The restaurant scored 43 demerits.

One other restaurant had a high demerit score:

  • Best Donuts, at 2400 NE 28th St., scored 31 demerits after inspectors observed cross-contamination, accumulated debris on utensils in the kitchen area, “extreme” debris on the floor, and employees not washing their hands properly, among other health violations. The doughnut shop received a new score of 12 during a follow-up inspection.
