Live roaches, mouse droppings found in Fort Worth restaurant health inspections

A Fort Worth sports bar and restaurant were closed after an inspector found live roaches in the facility during the Aug. 24 through Sept. 6 health inspections, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.

The bar portion of Muchacho Alegre, located at 2250 Jacksboro Highway, scored 19 demerits on Sept. 3. A live cockroach was seen in the gun spout, juices weren’t labeled, and there was insufficient hot water at one of the sinks. The establishment was required to call pest control and close until the violations could be fixed.

The restaurant portion of Muchacho Alegre scored 14 on Sept. 3. Live roaches were found in the reach-in cooler and prepared food items weren’t dated. The facility was required to call pest control and close until the issues could be fixed.

Another restaurant was not closed but scored higher than 30 demerits. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to immediately fix the most critical violations and start corrective procedures on all the other violations within 48 hours.

Arrieros Mexican Food at 4400 Benbrook Highway scored 39 on Sept. 3. The inspector found raw chicken at room temperature, expired employee food handler cards and a dirty microwave.

Arrieros scored 13 during a follow-up inspection Sept. 4.

Gyro and Burrito House at 14200 Trinity Blvd. received a high score of 28 on Sept. 2. The food manager’s certificate was expired, employees hadn’t completed an accredited food handler’s course and some rice wasn’t being held at a safe temperature.

The restaurant received 12 during a follow-up inspection Sept. 5.

Taste Of Asia at 9324 Clifford St. scored 27 during a Sept. 5 inspection. Some chicken and vegetables weren’t stored at a safe temperature, food residue was found on the beverage machine and in the prep cooler and there was no soap at the hand sink.

Taste of Asia scored 14 during a Sept. 6 follow-up inspection.

Yummy Buffet at 215 NE 28th St. scored 26 on Sept. 2. Several foods on the buffet line, including chicken and grilled fish, weren’t held at a safe temperature. A tray of shrimp was uncovered in the refrigerator and a large container of raw chicken was sitting over bags of flour.

Stop and Go convenience store at 3700 Ada Ave. scored 13 on Aug. 25. The inspector found mouse droppings under the chip rack, black organic residue in the ice machine and flies in the grocery area.

Ten eateries out of the 214 inspected received a perfect score of zero.
