White Castle is coming to North Texas for the first time. Here’s when it opens

For the first time in its more-than-100-year history, White Castle is coming to Texas.

The burger chain is opening its first store in the Lone Star state at the Grandscape shopping mall in The Colony, a company spokesperson confirmed to the Star-Telegram on Thursday. The restaurant is expected to open in summer 2026.

White Castle will hire between 80 to 100 employees at the North Texas location, the spokesperson said.

What to know about White Castle, now coming to Texas

In 1921, Billy Ingram founded the first White Castle with $700 and an idea, the company said.

The idea was to sell a five-cent small, square hamburger called a “slider.” The burger proved to be popular at the Wichita, Kan., location and the brand soon expanded.

As of May 2024, there are more than 300 White Castle locations across the country, according to Scrape Hero. The largest concentration of stores in one state is found in Illinois with nearly 60 restaurants.

Some folks might remember White Castle as the restaurant featured in the 2004 film “Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle.”

In addition to its trademark sliders, White Castle serves a bevvy of items.

There’s fried chicken and fried fish sliders, and even a plant-based burger. For sides, White Castle has french fries, mozzarella sticks, onion rings and chicken rings.

White Castle also serves breakfast in the form of egg, bacon and cheese sliders. Another option is the Belgian waffle slider, which trades the slider’s regular bun for, that’s right, waffles.

Dessert is also on the menu and includes several treats on a stick: strawberry cheesecake, fudge dipped brownie and gooey buttercake.
