How many cigarettes does Billy Bob Thornton smoke on ‘Landman?’ We counted
Beer and cigarettes are almost as essential as cowboy hats and boots to Billy Bob Thornton’s “Landman” character.
The Paramount+ series, co-created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, returned for its 10-episode second season in November 2025 and aired weekly until mid-January. “Landman” will return to Fort Worth in late August for season 3 filming.
Over its first two seasons, Thornton’s Tommy Norris indulges in many a beer and cigarette as he deals with trouble both at work and home.
The Star-Telegram went back and tallied up all the times Tommy (and the rest of the cast) cracked open a beer or reached for a smoke. Here’s what we found.
‘Landman’ cigarette tally
Through 20 episodes across two seasons, Tommy smokes 37 cigarettes.
In season 1, Tommy smokes 27 cigarettes, with his highest per episode count at six cigarettes in episode 2. Episode 5 is the only time Tommy does not strike a match.
Tommy’s son Cooper comes in second place for cigarettes smoked with two. Andy Garcia’s Gallino heats up one and Cooper’s antagonist Manuel also smokes one. Jimenez, the main season 1 villain, smokes marijuana a couple of times during the season, but we’re deciding not to add that to the count.

In season 2, Tommy smokes 10 cigarettes with his highest per episode count at two cigarettes in episode 1.
Again, Cooper is in second place with two cigarettes, followed by bartender Barney, who smokes one. Gallino is seen smoking a few cigars during the season, however, like with Jimenez earlier, we’re choosing to only count cigarettes.

‘Landman’ beer tally
Tommy drinks 23 beers over both seasons.
In season 1, Tommy drinks 15 beers, with his highest per episode count at four brews in episode 4. Tommy’s pal Dale comes in second place with 10 beers, followed by Cooper with four, Cooper’s crew with three in episode 1 and the retirement home folks with three in the season finale.
Angela and Ainsley drink a few margaritas, but per the beer parameters, we’re not counting those. Tommy drinking a pair of Dr Peppers will also not make the list.
In addition, Angela makes a liquor store run in episode 7 and picks up the following — Two 12-packs of White Claw, six four-packs of Mule 2.0 Moscow Mules, three 12-packs of Topo Chico Margarita, two 12-packs of Topo Chico Ranch Water, four six-packs of Ranch Water, three gallons of margarita mix and two gallons of Tito’s Vodka.

Dale comes in second place with seven beers, followed by Sam Elliott’s T.L. with three. Angela and her retirement folks are seen drinking margaritas and other cocktails this season, but we’re only counting beers. Similarly, geologist Charlie’s vodka and watermelon juice concoction in episode 4 does not factor into the count.
