Allen football still atop Class 6A state poll, Aledo edges closer in 5A
Allen strengthened its hold on the top spot in The Associated Press Class 6A state high school football poll after the Eagles’ 23-8 defeat last week of state-ranked Cedar Hill.

Allen (1-0) garnered 18 first-place votes and 228 points, up from 8 first-place votes and 211 points in the preseason poll. Cedar Hill 0-1 stayed in the poll, but dropped from No. 8 to No. 10.
Southlake Carroll’s comeback win against Broken Arrow, Okla., earned the Dragons nine points. They had four points in the preseason poll.
In Class 5A, Manvel 0-0 remains No. 1, but No. 2 Aledo edged closer to the top after beating Colleyville Heritage, 38-21. Manvel and Aledo each got 12 first-place votes.
Manvel is among 12 ranked teams whose Week 1 openers were canceled by the Hurricane Harvey disaster.
In the Star-Telegram rankings, 6A Carroll and 5A Aledo remain No. 1.
