Allen debuts at No. 1 in Associated Press high school football poll

Allen is No. 1 in The Associated Press state high school football preseason poll, released Monday, while defending 5A Division II champion Aledo is No. 2 to Manvel.

Aledo’s runner-up debut snaps a two-year run as preseason No. 1 on the 5A statewide poll.

Allen (14-1 in 2016) plays host to No. 8 Cedar Hill (11-3) in season-opening action Sept. 1.

“It doesn’t get really any bigger. Game 1, Week 1 in Allen,” Cedar Hill coach Carlos Lynn said Saturday during the Longhorns’ picture day activities. “Two of the top teams in Texas, clash of the titans. It’s going to be real fun.”

Lynn is is his first season at Cedar Hill, coming from Arlington Seguin.

“Of course the expectations in Cedar Hill are very high and we embrace that,” he added. “We look forward to an awesome season and it all kicks off in Allen, Texas, Sept. 1.”

Katy, No. 2 to Allen in 6A, was No. 1 in last year’s preseason poll.
