Facing fourth-and-2 from the Arlington 44 on its first drive of the game, Mansfield leaned on Kennedy Brooks to convert the first down.

He picked up the 2 yards all right — and 42 more on his way to end zone. His 44-yard scamper gave the Tigers an early 6-0 lead and set the tone.

Brooks finished with 263 yards on 27 carries and three touchdowns to lead Mansfield to a 43-14 victory against Arlington (2-3, 1-1) on Friday night in a District 4-6A game at Newsom Stadium.

Brooks did most of his work in the first half, rushing for 196 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns to help the Tigers (3-2, 2-0) build a 33-7 lead. His 22-yard run in the second quarter gave Mansfield a 26-7 lead. He added his final touchdown on a 1-yard run with 1:34 remaining in the second quarter.

Brooks appeared to be on his way to a fourth touchdown as time expired in the first half. But his 49-yard run was nullified by a holding penalty.

Brooks had 11 runs of 10 yards or longer.
