The brakes on an 18-wheeler caught fire and soon engulfed the truck near the intersection of I-635 and Highway 114 in Grapevine early Tuesday, according to the Grapevine Fire Department.

The driver of the semi was able to get out safely, but the fire spread, fire chief Darrell Brown said.

The truck was disabled about 3 a.m. and traffic was still being diverted at rush hour. Eastbound I-635 was shut down until after 8:30 a.m., Grapevine police spokeswoman Amanda McNue said.

Elsewhere in Grapevine, a bridge on eastbound Bass Pro Drive over Highway 121 that buckled Sunday afternoon has been repaired and reopened Monday evening, according to the Texas Department of Transportation.
