Dig for loose change! North Texas’ largest estate is going up for auction

It’s a nice bit of escapism, getting a peek into the homes, if not the lifestyle, of the rich and the famous.

The end of June is going to be an exciting time for luxury real estate auction houses with their mitts on a piece of the action on real estate like Fort Worth real estate tycoon John Goff’s hideaway on Eagle Mountain Lake or Swarovski heiress Vanessa Swarovski’s crystal-adorned beauty in Westlake.

But Champ d’Or is the biggest, baddest commission, not to mention the largest estate, of them all in North Texas. It will also go on auction June 28 via the New York City-based Concierge Auctions.

The French Chateau-styled palace contains more than 48,000 square feet of lap-of-luxury living space, which means the next owner will take over a single-family dwelling bigger than the closest Nordstrom. It sits on 40 acres about a mile north of Lake Dallas at 1851 Turbeville Road.

That’s just enough to keep those other residential developments along Swisher Road at arm’s length.

If you’re thinking of bidding on Champ d’Or, which translated means “Field of Gold,” you don’t worry yourself with how many bedrooms are on the premises, as it includes three altogether self-contained apartments for staff or guests. The master-suite wing comes complete with its own spa and indoor lap pool, breakfast bar, Chanel-inspired closet and hair salon, all tucked behind double doors with the ability to completely seal off from the rest of the home.

The current owner is the Tabani Group, a commercial real estate group in Dallas. It was built in 2002 at an estimated cost of more than $50 million.

“As we enter the next chapter of our lives, and choose to downsize and be closer to our grandchildren, we’ll cherish the times here and know the next owner has many amazing adventures in store,” the seller, Zaf Tabani, said in a written statement. He won the property in a 2012 auction, after Champ d’Or had been assessed at $9.7 million in 2011 and then $21.7 million in 2012, records show.

According to the June 28 auction listing, Concierge Auctions is asking for opening bids in a range from $5.5 million to $10 million this time around.

We’ll wait while you all start digging between the couch cushions.
