Not just Micah Parsons: Dallas Cowboys’ Kenny Clark can also get Week 4 revenge

When the Dallas Cowboys sent away four-time Pro Bowl defensive end Micah Parsons in a blockbuster trade with the Green Bay Packers on Aug. 28, the spotlight immediately shined on the return of Parsons exactly one month later to AT&T Stadium on Sept. 28.

Now, it is game week for both sides as the Cowboys welcome him back into Arlington, this time on the visiting sideline. But lost in the spectacle around Parsons’ return is the other piece of that trade having his own reunion, Cowboys defensive tackle Kenny Clark.

After nine seasons with the Packers, Clark received a phone call while sitting in his basement just hours after shaking hands with Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst coming off the practice field. It was Gutekunst saying that he was being sent to Dallas.

“I was shocked,” Clark said. “It was probably the most shocked I’ve ever been in my life. I had heard the rumors that the Packers were going to trade for Micah, but I never thought it was going to be me that was going to be traded.”

Less than 12 hours later, Clark was on a private jet to Dallas to get settled into his new home. Now, less than one month later, he will face off against a team that he thought would be the only one he’d ever play for.

“Of course, when you’ve been somewhere for nine years, it’s hard not to have those emotions,” Clark said. “But it’s another game at the end of the day. I’ll be ready and prepared to help my team win. At the end of the day, we’re trying to go 1-0.”

Throughout the week, Clark has been able to assist in multiple areas of game-planning, as his knowledge of the personnel in Green Bay could help give Dallas an advantage in some areas. But also with his experience, he knows it will go both ways.

“There’s a lot you can take out of that,” he said. “I know them in and out, and they know me. I’ve been going against those guys for a long time. I know how they like to block. As far as scheme and that kind of stuff, that’s a little tougher. As far as me versus the guy, knowing how they’re going to block me and knowing the sets, they know what I’m going to do and I know what they’re going to do.”

On Sunday, Clark will have an entire suite of family and friends at AT&T Stadium taking in the game. While it will be special for his supporters, it’s just another outing for him.

So much so, Clark didn’t even really lean into the emotions of the game too hard. He doesn’t see it as some closure moment or some revenge opportunity on Sunday. Simply, he’s focused on the outcome for the team he now represents.

“It ain’t personal to me. Call it what it is, it’s definitely been a connection. I’ve been there nine years, there’s emotion and I’m going to have a lot of family here. But at the end of the day, I’m trying to help the Cowboys getting a win.”
