Philadelphia Eagles expect more production from former TCU 1st-round pick Jalen Reagor
The Philadelphia Eagles need more from former TCU wide receiver Jalen Reagor.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said Wednesday that Reagor, who was selected 21st overall in the 2020 NFL Draft, knows the team expects improved production in 2022.
Reagor’s numbers in 2021 were static with his rookie season, despite playing in six fewer games in 2020. He had 33 receptions for 299 yards and two touchdowns in 2021. In 2020, he had 31 receptions for 396 yards and a touchdown. He averaged nearly 20 yards more a game as a rookie. He was targeted 54 times in 2020 and 57 times in 2021.
“We talked about it at the end of the season; we need Jalen to take another step,” Roseman said. “We need Jalen to do some of the things we drafted him to do. He knows that. There’s no secret about that. We’ve told him the same things.”
Roseman said the club is looking at receivers at the NFL Draft at the end of April. The Eagles have 10 picks, including three in the first round and nine through the first five rounds.
The Eagles finished 9-8 and lost in the wild card round this past season.
“You’ll have opportunities in the draft where you’ll go, ‘Hey, that guy is a good fit for what we’re doing offensively,’” he said. “That guy is a good receiver, and we’ll see how free agency goes, as well.”
Reagor, who played at Waxahachie High School, missed five games his rookie season because of injury. He started 13 of 17 games in 2021.
Reagor has been the subject of some trade speculation, but the Eagles remain publicly committed to him. Former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson, who drafted Reagor, is now the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach. That could be one potential trade option.
