Quarterback Dak Prescott is one of eight Dallas Cowboys players who have undergone surgery since the end of the season, coach Mike McCarthy said at the NFL Scouting Combine on Tuesday.

McCarthy said Prescott was having trouble sleeping so he had an elective procedure to “clean-up” his left shoulder, his non-throwing shoulder.

There is no long-term concern, and the recovery is not expected to limit Prescott’s activity in the offseason.

“I just know it bothered him,” McCarthy said. “It was something that was sleeping, more of an irritant and I think just like anything I know the importance of Dak Prescott and I think it’s important for players to speak on their body and their injuries. It’s something that he felt like he needed to get cleaned up.”

Prescott, who missed last offseason rehabbing from a fractured right ankle, injured his right shoulder in training camp, but was on the field for the season opener. He also missed one game during the season due to a calf strain.

Prescott passed for a team-record 37 touchdowns in 2021 but saw his play decline over the last half of season.

The injury had no impact on his performance, McCarthy said.

Prescott passed on playing in the Pro Bowl to rest after a long season that included rehab from two surgeries due to the fractured ankle, the shoulder strain in training camp, the calf strain during the season and now the irritation in his non-throwing shoulder.

He is already back at the Cowboys headquarters at The Star in Frisco rehabbing with the rest of his teammates.

The others players who have undergone surgery since the end of the season are safety Donovan Wilson, receiver Michael Gallup, defensive ends Chauncey Golston and Randy Gregory, tight end Blake Jarwin, safety Darian Thompson and receiver Brandon Smith.
