Dallas Cowboys

Whataburger is Dallas Cowboys’ official burger. Houston Texans ask ‘Where’s the beef?’

It’s a marketing agreement that makes so much sense it’s just about shocking that it didn’t already exist.

Whataburger, the iconic, Texas-born hamburger chain is now the “Official Burger of the Dallas Cowboys.”

Sorry, Houston Texans. Perhaps you can still call Fuddruckers your official burger. If they’re around much longer. Yikes!

Whataburger, which started in Corpus Christi in 1950, has been a Texas burger institution. The Cowboys, which started in 1960, have become one of the most famous sports franchises in the world.

This is the first time Whataburger has been named the official burger of an NFL team. A press release from Whataburger says fans should expect to see “more orange-and-white on the Whataburger Game Day Set” at AT&T Stadium. They’re also promising “exciting community activations.” Here’s hoping that means free No. 5 meals with a large Diet Dr Pepper every time Dak Prescott throws a touchdown pass.

Oh, wait. Sounds like it’s a charitable function of the partnership with the two companies huddling “around the causes that matter to Texas.”

Cowboys vice president Jerry Jones Jr.’s favorite order at Whataburger is the No. 4 Jalapeno and Cheese Whataburger.

“This partnership brings together two legends that share the same drive to be the best we can for our fans — both on and off the field,” he said.

The franchises partnered on a lesser scale in 2014 when Whataburger sponsored the Cowboys’ Coach of the Week program and in 2016 it sponsored Friday Night Stars at The Star in Frisco.

“We know how important the Dallas Cowboys are to our state, and we can’t wait to show the fans what we can do together as a team, both on the gridiron and the grill,” Whataburger VP Rich Scheffler said.

The Cowboys open their 2020 home campaign on Sept. 20 against the Atlanta Falcons.
