Veteran DB Brandon Carr returns to Dallas Cowboys. This time it’s on the practice squad.

The Dallas Cowboys are bringing back a familiar face.

Veteran defensive back Brandon Carr has been signed to the organization’s practice squad, the club announced on Sunday. Veterans are allowed to sign with practice squads this season as part of the NFL’s updated policies amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Carr is a 12-year veteran in the league who has started every game (192) in his career with stops at Kansas City (2008-11), Dallas (2012-16) and Baltimore (2017-19).

Carr joined the Cowboys on a five-year, $50.1 million deal on the first day of free agency in 2012. He started 80 games for the Cowboys in that five-year stretch, although he had just one interception in his final three seasons.

Carr spent the past three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens. He had 49 tackles and two sacks for the Ravens in 2019.

Carr joins the Cowboys with experience playing cornerback and safety. He still lives in the DFW area and visited the team on Friday.

As stated, the NFL is allowing organizations to have up to six of 16 practice squad players with any experience level in the league, with no limit on accrued seasons.

Other practice squad changes included the size increasing from 10 to 16 players; teams being able to select four players who can’t be signed to another team’s 53-man roster; and two players per week are able to be promoted to the active roster and then move back to the practice squad without being subject to the waiver process (there is a maximum of two promotions before the waiver rules go into effect).

The Cowboys made additional moves Sunday, according to sources. Linebacker Sean Lee (pelvis), right tackle La’el Collins (hip) and wide receiver Ventell Bryant (knee) were placed on injured reserve and will not be available for the first three games. As corresponding moves, they have (or plan to) re-sign linebackers Justin March and Joe Thomas, as well as cornerback C.J. Goodwin.
