Cowboys considering putting veteran linebacker Sean Lee on injured reserve

The Dallas Cowboys are considering opening the season with veteran linebacker Sean Lee on injured reserve, sources told the Star-Telegram, confirming multiple reports.

Lee, 34, has not participated in training camp with an undisclosed injury.

The NFL has loosened its IR rules amid the coronavirus pandemic, allowing players to resume practice and play as soon as 21 calendar days from the day of placement on the list. A player has to be on the final roster before being moved to IR.

Lee is coming off a season in which he played all 16 games, including 13 starts, with 86 tackles, one sack and one interception.

Lee, a second-round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft, is entering his 11th season with the organization. He agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million ($2 million guaranteed) contract this offseason.

The Cowboys are scheduled to open the season at the Los Angeles Rams on Sept. 13.
