A dominating first half, but Cowboys only clinging to 6-0 lead

The Dallas Cowboys dominated the first half Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, even if the scoreboard didn’t indicate as much.

The Cowboys took a 6-0 lead into the break as Brett Maher drilled a franchise-record 62-yard field goal as time expired.

Dallas’ 80-yard drive in the first quarter stalled out in the red zone and netted a 28-yard field goal.

Near the end of the half, another long drive ended with Maher’s missed 45-yard field goal attempt.

The Cowboys’ also had a 54-yard drive thwarted when Dak Prescott’s pass intended for Amari Cooper in the end zone was intercepted by Rasul Douglas, who returned it 17 yards to the Cowboys’ 18.

Dallas’ defense put together one of its more impressive first halves of the season. The Eagles were held to 70 total yards and four first downs.

Tyrone Crawford forced a fumble on a sack of Carson Wentz which Maliek Collins recovered to give the Cowboys the ball at the Dallas 38 with less than a minute left in the half. But a holding penalty by Tyron Smith wiped a away completion to Blake Jarwin but Maher nailed a Cowboys’ record 62-yard field goal as time expired.

The Cowboys had 233 total yards and 14 first downs and held the ball for 21:14 compared to the Eagles’ 8:46. Prescott completed 20 of 26 passes for 150 yards. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 72 yards on 11 carries. Elliott also led with seven receptions for 39 yards.
