Many have connected the star to the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team where his career started; the Miami Heat, where he won his first championship; or Golden State, where his friends Steph Curry and Draymond Green could help give him one last shot at a title and allow him to stay in California.
What about the Dallas Mavericks? James has a connection with Dallas guard Kyrie Irving, whom he won the 2016 title with in a historic upset over the Warriors.
James would also be able to team up with Cooper Flagg, one of the best young players in the game, as well as have complementary role players like PJ Washington, Naji Marshall and Daniel Gafford.
Paul had a whiteboard where he broke down the top candidates, and under Dallas, he mentioned the team’s new leadership under president Masai Ujiri.
“In Dallas they got oil, they got golf, they got Macao and the Sands group [with owners Miriam Adelson and Patrick Dumont], and then with Masai they got the whole continent of Africa. A lot comes with Dallas and Masai,” Paul said.
While his game has slipped due to age, James, who is 41 years old, is still one of the NBA’s elite, averaging 20.9 points with 6.1 rebounds and 7.2 assists per game last season.
