Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban picks up troubled former player, offers to cover rehab

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is helping former NBA player Delonte West, who has battled substance abuse and homelessness.

Cuban picked West up at a Dallas gas station on Monday, according to TMZ and later confirmed by ESPN.

Cuban put West up in a hotel and is offering to help pay for substance abuse treatment for West, a source told TMZ. Cuban has been trying to contact West for days, according to the report.

West, who played in 44 games with the Mavs in the 2011-12 season, including 33 starts, was suspended from the Mavs in October 2012 for conduct detrimental to the team. It was his last season of his eight seasons in the NBA, which included stops in Boston, Cleveland and Seattle.

West, 37, was recently seen asking for money with a sign on a Dallas street.

TMZ reports that West is open to the idea of rehab, of which his family has been trying to facilitate.
