Dallas Mavericks

Mavs most likely to select one of these three prospects in the NBA Draft on Thursday

Who will the Mavericks take in the 2018 NBA Draft?

After months of speculation, we will all, finally, get an answer to that question on Thursday night.

Some reports have said the team would be willing to trade down for the right price. Others NBA insiders have said the team also is considering moving up a spot or two depending on the situation.

Really, much will depend on what the often unpredictable Sacramento Kings front office decides to do with pick No. 2.

But before we get to Thursday evening, here are the three prospects the Mavericks might covet most based on their college careers, mental makeup, athleticism and potential.

3. Michael Porter Jr., SF, Missouri, 6-11, 216

Last week, reports came out that he had to skip multiple draft workouts, which means the injury concerns are legitimate. Then again, he's still drawing major interest from teams above the Mavericks in the draft order. His ability to shoot from anywhere, as well as his height and athleticism would help a Mavericks team that was one of the worst three-point shooting teams in the NBA last season.

2. Luka Doncic, SG, Real Madrid, 6-7, 220

Oddsmakers have him as the favorite to be taken second overall by the Kings and social media gossip has added fuel to that fire. At 18 years old, he's already got a ton of pro experience in Europe. His game is uniquely his own and puts his potential closer to that of Dirk Nowitzki than Darko Milicic.

1. Mohambed Bamba, C, Texas, 7-0, 215

A few reports have said the team might not be all that high on the Longhorns' product. But this match feels a little bit inevitable. Bamba's offensive game needs a fair amount of work, but his defensive prowess and athleticism are unique even for today's NBA.

Dallas Mavericks forward Dirk Nowitzki hosts his 7th Heroes Celebrity baseball game at Dr. Pepper Ballpark on Friday, June 8, 2018.
