Another blow for Texas Rangers as top starting pitcher likely done for season
Texas Rangers pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, a top AL Cy Young candidate, has a rotator cuff strain and will likely miss the rest of the season, team president of baseball operations Chris Young announced Tuesday.
This makes the third Ranger in recent weeks to possibly be out for the remainder of the year, joining second baseman Marcus Semien (foot) and outfielder Evan Carter (wrist).
One of the leading candidates for the AL Cy Young Award, Eovaldi was in the midst of a masterful season, going 11-3 with a 1.73 ERA, which would lead the majors if he qualified.
Eovaldi’s loss is yet another knock to the Rangers’ fragile playoff chances, with the team 5.5 games out of the final wild-card spot with 29 games left in the season.
The Rangers lost the first game of their three-game series with the Los Angeles Angels on Monday and will play them again at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Globe Life Field.
