Texas Rangers lose another player to injury during last-ditch playoff push

The Texas Rangers are trying to claw their way back into the American League wild-card race and will have to do so without star second baseman Marcus Semien, who was sent to the 10-day Injury list retroactive to Friday.

The injury will keep Semien out for four to six weeks, most likely ending his regular season. He joins outfielder Evan Carter, who suffered a right wrist fracture that put him on the 10-day injury list also Friday, most likely ending his season, too.

Semien told reporters his injury to his foot consisted of a sprain of the third metatarsal as well as a sprain of the Lisfranc ligament.

The injury comes as the Rangers, 4.5 games out of the last AL wild-card spot, are fresh off a crucial three-game sweep of the Cleveland Guardians.

Semien has been an iron man for the Rangers throughout his tenure, playing at least 159 games in his three seasons with the team and leading the franchise in games played since joining.

The Rangers did get some good news on the injury front, activating Adolis Garcia off the 10-day injured list after he dealt with a left ankle sprain.
