Since becoming the title sponsor in 2019, Charles Schwab has given a custom car to the winner every year, except for 2020, when it instead donated to COVID-19 relief. The only commonality with the cars is they are all “Schwab blue,” and have some sort of tartan upholstery.
Mason Reed, managing director of retail acquisition and corporate marketing at Charles Schwab, talked about how giving away these custom cars has added to the tournament.
“If you add to that the fact that golf is steeped in tradition, trying to find new traditions presents a great opportunity for us, which was the genesis of starting to have a car trophy, if you will. And we jumped through a lot of hoops and had a lot of debate about this at the beginning when we wanted to do it for the very first time, and immediately it became embraced by everybody. … So it’s really taken on a life of its own,” said Reed.
Take a look at each car given away by the tournament and decide which one you’d most like to take for a ride.
