DFW’s top quarterback, nation’s best college recruit commits to the Texas Longhorns

The Texas Longhorns have landed their biggest football commitment since Vince Young.

Southlake Carroll junior quarterback Quinn Ewers committed to the Horns on Friday, making him the second 2022 recruit to choose Texas, joining Lancaster’s Phaizon Wilson.

Ewers is a five-star QB who is ranked the top high school football player from the class of 2022 according to 247Sports. He threw for 4,003 yards and 45 touchdowns last season as the Dragons went 13-1 and made a trip to the state quarterfinals.

In April, Ewers was named top college recruit, regardless of class, by ESPN.

Projected to commit with Oklahoma in April, Ewers has 30 offers, which also included TCU, Texas A&M, Alabama, Ohio State, Texas, Baylor, Florida, Miami, Michigan Tennessee, Missouri and Mississippi.

Ewers was voted District 5-6A MVP, Star-Telegram Offensive Player of the Year and MaxPreps National Sophomore of the Year last season. He only threw three interceptions and completed 72.4% of his passes.

UT’s 2021 recruiting class ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 and No. 13 in the country. It includes five players from Dallas-Fort Worth, three from Tarrant County in JD Coffey (Kennedale), Juan Davis (Everman) and Morice Blackwell (Arlington Martin).
