Five players from Dallas-Fort Worth named to 2019 ALL-USA High School Football Team
USA Today released its ALL-USA high school football team for the 2019 season in December and a pair of star wide receivers from Texas made first-team offense.
Frisco Lone Star senior Marvin Mims and Rockwall senior Jaxon Smith-Njigba were the top two receivers this season.
Mims, who is bound for the University of Oklahoma, leaves high school as the state’s career leader in receiving yards. He set the record in the state semifinals vs. Denton Ryan.
The winner of the Mr. Texas Football award also set a record for most yards in a single season. He finished with 2,626 yards and 31 touchdowns.
By his side was Smith-Njigba, who was the 2019 Landry Award winner and Gatorade Texas player of the year.
Smith-Njigba (Ohio State) made 109 catches for 2,132 yards and 34 TDs as Rockwall went to the state semis for the first time since 1987.
Also making first-team offense was Duncanville offensive tackle Savion Byrd. The 6-foot-5 junior is ranked as the No. 2 OT in the nation for the class of 2021.
Byrd’s teammate, quarterback Ja’Quinden Jackson was named second-team offense. Jackson, one of the top athletes in the country, is headed to the University of Texas-Austin.
Arlington star cornerback and Florida bound Jahari Rogers was named second-team defense. Rogers participated in the Under Armour All-America game in Orlando.
Duncanville head coach Reginald Samples was named coach of the year after guiding the Panthers to a 15-1 record and trip to the state title game for the second straight season.
