McKinney ISD’s $70 million football stadium has one of the biggest video scoreboards in the country
The first game at McKinney ISD’s new $69.9 million high school football cathedral took place last August, as McKinney North beat McKinney, 31-13.
And the video scoreboard, which is located near the north end zone, is 54 feet wide by 32 feet tall. Thus, making it the second largest video scoreboard in Texas and the country.
It is also the tallest building on campus.
“While these systems can start as simple as a basic scoreboard or an entry-level video display with a camera, we are proud of the evolution of high schools like McKinney ISD, Katy ISD and Dallas ISD as they lead the market with our patented technology similar to professional venues like Houston Astros, FC Dallas, Pittsburgh Steelers and many more,” Kyle Sydow, Daktronics High School, Parks & Recreation market manager, said in a press release on Thursday.
Per the release, the jumbotron displays “either one large image or divided into multiple zones to show any combination of live video, instant replays, game information and statistics, graphics and animations and sponsorship messages.”
Weslaco ISD has the largest video scoreboard, which resides just past the track at Bobby Lackey Stadium in Weslaco.
Daktronics also designed and installed the video scoreboards at Allen ISD’s Eagle Stadium and Katy ISD’s Legacy Stadium.
Eagle stadium, which opened in 2012, cost $60 million, seats 18,000 people and has a video scoreboard that is 75 feet wide by 45 feet tall.
Legacy Stadium, which opened in 2017, cost $72 million, seats 12,000 people and has a video scoreboard that is 50 feet wide by 30 feet tall.
Note: this story originally stated that McKinney ISD’s stadium has the largest video display in the country. The company sent a correction stating: “McKinney isn’t the largest display in the country as Weslaco, TX school district installed a display that is 36’ high x 66’ wide shortly after McKinney’s.”
