Carroll cruises, gets DeSoto next
Southlake Carroll kept mainly to the ground game, riding the legs of Audricke Gaines as the Dragons’ power offense defeated Wylie 28-3 Friday in Class 6A Division II Region I bi-district game at Dragon Stadium. Carroll next meets DeSoto (11-0) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Plano’s Clark Stadium. Carroll rolled up 432 total yards (236 rushing) while limiting Wylie to 285 yards (75 on the ground).
Key players: Gaines rushed 26 times for 152 yards and scored the game’s opening touchdown, while teammate Jack Johansson added 96 yards on nine carries and a TD. Carroll quarterback Mason Holmes passed for 196 yards and 2 TDs on 9-of-19 passing. Carroll WR Clayton Keyes caught six passes for 131 yards, including a 65-yard scoring play.
