Burleson Centennial subdues Mansfield Timberview

Burleson Centennial’s first Class 5A playoff game in Region II was a success Friday night thanks in part to the play of Spartans’ quarterback Payton Strambler. The senior threw for two scores and ran for another in the second half as Centennial defeated Mansfield Timberview 49-26 at Mansfield’s Newson Stadium.

Key players: Strambler ran an offense that finished with 308 yards rushing and 107 passing. Strambler threw touchdown passes of 35 and 37 yards to Xander Richards. Timberview scored twice on kickoff returns of 96 yards by Jalen Knox and 80 yards by Tre Davis.

Key stat: Centennial will play Dallas South Oak Cliff (8-3) at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Midlothian in the next round.

Records: Centennial 9-1; Timberview 6-5
