Playoff spot falls Cleburne’s way as Yellow Jackets defeat Joshua
The Cleburne Yellow Jackets romped to a 59-7 defeat of Joshua in District 9-5A action Friday, then grabbed the district’s last playoff spot when Everman lost in overtime to Burleson Centennial, 28-21. Cleburne and Everman finished 4-3 in district play, but Cleburne beat Everman 34-17 on Sept. 23.
Key players: The Owls displayed on their sideline the jersey of junior varsity player Aaron Singleton, who died Friday after suffering a seizure during Thursday’s JV game. Cleburne’s Austin Robinson had six catches for 123 yards and a touchdown, 10 carries for 113 yards and a touchdown, and he completed a pass for 32 yards. Joshua’s Hayden Chittum added a 69-yard touchdown run.
Key stat: Cleburne out-gained Joshua, 578-224, in the game.
Records: Cleburne 7-3, 4-3 in 9-5A; Joshua 1-9, 0-7.
