Southlake Carroll wins 8th straight to clinch share of 5-6A title
Carroll ran its winning streak to eight games and clinched no worse than a tie for first place in District 5-6A with a 45-7 victory over L.D. Bell on Friday at Pennington Field in Bedford. The Dragons play Lewisville Hebron on Friday with a chance to clinch sole possession of the title. Carroll scored first on a 47-yard field goal by Kole Ramage and built a 38-0 lead before Bell got on the board with a 7-yard run from Ivan Traylor in the fourth quarter. The Dragons used four quarterbacks in the game, with Will Bowers coming off the bench to throw a TD and run for another, while starter Mason Holmes threw a score.
Key players: Tre Sledge rushed for 108 yards and a TD for Carroll, and defensive back R.J. Mickens picked off two passes, including one in the end zone. Traylor rushed for 85 yards for Bell, including 58 on five carries in the Blue Raiders’ lone scoring drive.
Key stat: On its first possession of the game, Bell drove 63 yards to the Carroll 12, picking up five first downs and converting its first two third downs. An interception in the end zone ended the drive and Bell managed only five more first downs.
