Colleyville Heritage quickly subdues FW Carter-Riverside
Colleyville Heritage jumped out to a big lead Friday night, on the rushing effort of Mario Ortiz in the first half, as the Panthers defeated Fort Worth Carter-Riverside 61-0 in a District 8-5A game at Mustang-Panther Stadium in Grapevine.
Key players: Ortiz ran for 60 yards and three first-half scores, on runs of 14,1 and 21 yards. Panthers quarterback Cam Roane threw for two more first-half scores. Helping in the win were the special teams as well, as Hunter Mechelen returned a first-half punt 59 yards for a score.
Key stat: Playoff-bound Colleyville Heritage, headed for the 5A Division I bracket, finished with 355 yards of total offense. Heritage meets 8-5A leader Richland next week. Richland plays Fort Worth Dunbar today.
Records: Colleyville Heritage 6-3, 5-1 in 8-5A; Carter-Riverside 3-6, 1-5.
